Lighting of Breckenridge
Come to Breckenridge to begin celebrating the holiday season the weekend of December 7th, 2019. Watch the Bernese Mountain Dog Parade and participate in Race with the Santas late afternoon before the festivities begin for lighting the town tree. Holiday carolers will be strolling Main Street, hot cocoa, cookies and Santa are all a part of the Lighting of Breckenridge!
International Snow Sculpture Championship
The International Snow Sculpture Championship will return to Breckenridge, Colo. January 20-29, 2020 when 16 teams from around the world descend on Breckenridge, Colorado to hand-carve 20-ton blocks of snow into enormous, intricate works of art. Artists are only allowed to use hand tools, creativity and inspiration to bring their ideas to life. No power tools allowed! Teams sculpt countless hours across five days (totaling around 96 hours), resulting in a temporary outdoor art gallery in historic downtown Breckenridge! The sculpting takes place January 20-24th and viewing goes from the 24th until 7pm on the 29th. This is free and open to the public.
Ullr Fest will celebrate 56 years December 11-15, 2019! The Town of Breckenridge invites snow lovers of all ages to join the party. During Ullr Fest in Breckenridge, don’t be surprised to see horned Viking hats adorning the heads of skiers and snowboarders, the biggest bonfire in town, and more than 12,000 Ullr enthusiasts filling the streets for the Ullr Parade with crazy float participants skiing off jumps on Main Street or gliding along town in a hot tub. Join us to rejoice with Ullr himself… he’s ready for a good party.
In Norse mythology, Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) was the winter god. He was the son of Sif and the stepson of Thor, the “God of Thunder.” Ullr loved the cold, and delighted in traveling over the country on his skis or skates. He also delighted in the chase, and pursued his game through the Northern Forests.
